Serving Islam And Humanity

Introduction

If you travel from Lahore towards Islamabad on the M2 motorway, after half the distance, you will see the Bhera Interchange sign by the roadside. Then, suddenly, magnificent buildings, an abundance of cars and buses, and a lively, colorful environment appear on both sides, where motorists from all over Pakistan stop to rest. This is the oldest and busiest interchange on Pakistan's first motorway. From here, the city of Bhera is located only 3.5 kilometers away, a 10-minute drive in your car.

The word "Bhera" is derived from Sanskrit, meaning "Abode of Peace." In a time when there was a constant threat of invasions from all directions, this city remained a haven of peace for centuries, excelling in knowledge, craftsmanship, and culture.

Due to its location, Bhera has been a confluence of education and culture. Public peace has promoted trade and industry on one hand and education and awareness on the other. During the British era, Bhera's schools served a vast area. Similarly, Darul Uloom Azizia, located in Bhera, is one of the oldest Islamic institutions in the Indian subcontinent. For a long period, it catered to the religious educational needs of Muslim students from a vast area stretching from the banks of the Indus River to the Ravi River.

Tradition says that the word Sargodha is derived from two central words namely “Sar” which means pond and “Godha” which means a spiritual Jogi or elder who lived here long ago. Folklore says that the Godha had constructed a small hut next to a pond where his cattle used to graze, hence the evolution of the name Sargodha for the locality.
